A strategic prioritization retreat of the United Nations Development Cooperation Strategy 2016-2020 was held on October 15-16, 2019 in Nur-Sultan.

The strategic prioritization retreat aimed at discussing and defining UN priority areas for the next five years in Kazakhstan. The working group included above 100 participants representing civil society, public sector and international organisations.

In his welcome speech UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Norimasa Shimomura emphasized the meeting’s significance for collecting complex and reliable information about country priorities.

Participants were divided into three working groups: «People», «Peace», «Partnership and governance». Each group presented different areas of sustainable development and defined key challenges in each of SDGs on Kazakhstan for 2021-2025.

IAС experts represented by a Vice-President Miraim Atanayeva, a deputy head of the Department for Analytics, Monitoring and Evaluation Aida Akhmetzhanova and a project manager of the Department for International Comparative Studies Aigerim Zuyeva reflected the key education issues in the working group “People”.

The strategic prioritization retreat has been a unique networking platform making every voice heard. The retreat’s conclusions will provide a basis for a new United Nations Development Cooperation in Kazakhstan for 2021-2025.
