Kazakhstan for the first time among the 50 countries of the world will participate in an international study of assessment of the competence of reading PIRLS-2016 (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study)

International sample for the study of reading literacy selected 5008 fourth-graders of Kazakhstan. In total, the project will involve 250 000 junior schoolchildren of the world.

For all countries established a common test time - 80 minutes, 10 minute break.

Each participant will be presented with only two of the text. This feature is usually a funny story or a fairy tale, and the texts of scientific and popular destinations, for example, stories about animals.

Reading results are assessed from two perspectives - the acquisition of literary reading experience and reading with a view to the development and use of information.

At the same time in the questionnaire will participate parents of fourth graders, class teachers and school principals.

International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) - the coordinator of the study will be presented PIRLS - also analyzes the degree of influence of external factors on the level of literacy of reading younger students.

Research will be held from 4-30 April 2016. Results will be published in December 2017.

Research is conducted once every five years. The first project was implemented in 2001 with the participation of 35 countries.

A leader in the PIRLS study occupied countries like Hong Kong, Russia, Finland and Singapore over 3 cycles (2001, 2006, 2011).
